In 2012, the United Nations General Assembly announced the first annual Global Day of Parents. Since then, June 1st has become a day dedicated to appreciating parents for their selfless commitments and sacrifices. That’s why we launched Asana Partners, a single platform for distributed work that connects over 200 essential application partners.

As Head of Global Engagement Marketing at Asana, I have the pleasure and privilege of leading a team of fourteen mission-driven marketers across five countries. A big part of my role is focused on growing Asana Together, our global community of professionals who are passionate about project management, productivity, and collaboration.

Collaboration today is more global and connected than ever. As leaders of globally distributed teams in Europe, Asia, Australia, and the US—Jessica leads the Revenue Marketing team and Joshua leads the Engagement Marketing team at Asana—we live and breathe this every day. One of the most challenging aspects of managing team members located in multiple regions is team bonding. How do you create tight connections across countries (or counties), and how do you maintain them over time?

One of the best parts of my job is how diverse my team is. As the Head of Revenue Marketing at Asana, the people I work with are spread across the globe and timezones. Even when everyone returns to the office, I’ll still have a distributed team with team members in the US, Asia, Europe, and Australia. Given the makeup of my team, I had a lot of experience managing a distributed team even before the world suddenly shifted to remote work.

The shift to remote work at the beginning of the pandemic took most of us by surprise. More than a year later, a return to office is finally in sight for many of us, but we know it won’t be as simple as unlocking the doors. For one thing, there will be a lot of doors. With offices in nine countries, the global Asana team will still be distributed even when we return to in-person collaboration.
