A new home and license (AGPL) for Synapse and friends

We believe in open source because it encourages innovation, ensures transparency and puts end-users in control. It’s why we created Matrix as an open source project, and ensured a well-defined open governance model around it through the Matrix.org Foundation, to ensure the protocol will always be guided by its original manifesto.

Secure Border Gateway: Enhanced control of your real-time communication data

Safeguarding communication data and maintaining control over your network traffic is of paramount importance. In this age when people are constantly connected, organisations need to fortify their internal networks against external threats, while ensuring regulatory compliance and optimal performance. Enter the Dragon Secure Border Gateway for Matrix: a powerful add-on for Element Server Suite that reinforces the security of your data by providing capabilities to address these critical needs.

Long-term support ensures long-term success

Before we start, let's clear up a few Three Letter Acronyms (TLAs)! LTS stands for Long-term support, and denotes a version (or release) of a software product that is specifically designed to receive support for an extended period. ESS refers to Element Server Suite, the name of our backend hosting product that gives organisations the control and flexibility to make full use of their data sovereign real-time communications. So, hopefully, now it makes sense when we say that ESS now comes with LTS!

The Future of Secure Communications

We recently commissioned Forrester Consulting to deep dive into the future of secure communications within the workplace. The results are mind blowing! Off the back of the pandemic, organizations have been caught flat-footed. They now have serious problems with how their workforce communicates; from the shortcomings of email to the Wild West of messaging apps. We’ve made the study - The Future of Secure Communications - available for download.

Preparing our customers for a new era of secure communication

For anyone new around here, we enable our customers to have true self-sovereignty over their communications through a combination of Element Server Suite (ESS) and our Element app. ESS allows our customers to own their communication platform and deploy powerful administrative tooling through our paid subscriptions. Customers host their own server(s) and customise it to suit their business needs.

Element X preview is now on Android too!

Psst… don’t tell anyone, but: Android development on Element X has now caught up with iOS and we’ve released an early edition of Element X in the Google Play Store. Since we published our first release of Element X for iOS on the App Store in July, we’ve been swamped with Android users asking how to get involved too; and so now we’re officially making Element X goodness available on both platforms.
