Element

An unrecognisable improvement: Element's new design is here!

Coming soon to a mobile device near you, the redesigned layout brings big changes to your Element app. With a focus on improving our users' workflows, we’ve ensured the app is cleaner, easier to browse, and faster to navigate, while keeping all the Element goodness! Over the last few weeks and months our mobile teams have been working hard researching, designing and building a new home page for both iOS and Android Element apps.

Element Web/Desktop 1.11.4 - A security update, deferred DMs and more

Hey everyone! We’ve got a new release for you, and it has security fixes so please make sure you upgrade. We’ll disclose the details of the issue down the line, but stress that this update is important. Over the weekend we received a report from Val Lorentz (thank you!) that it was possible to create a situation where Element wouldn’t show all of the user’s rooms or Spaces, causing minor (temporary) corruption and Denial of Service (DoS).

Element is a leader in The Forrester Wave: Secure Communications, Q3 2022!

We’re incredibly excited to share this news! In our view, being identified as a leader in The Forrester Wave for Secure Communications (Q3 2022) is a powerful validation of the benefits Element brings to large enterprises and governments. In Forrester’s words Element is a great fit for “...organizations that prioritize flexibility, federation, and data sovereignty”. We are always having conversations with our customers about these three benefits.

How to solve the 'WhatsApp at work' problem

Workplace use of WhatsApp is an expensive habit - so expensive it’s costing five US investment banks a total of $1B in fines from the SEC 🤯! This isn’t just a Wall Street problem - it's worldwide. Germany’s financial watchdog, BaFin, is investigating senior executive use of WhatsApp at Deutsche Bank.

Element launches Chatterbox!

It’s a surprise to most people that the majority of embedded chat is not end-to-end encrypted (E2EE). And that’s perfectly understandable. You’d automatically think that a healthcare insurance firm would provide its customers with E2EE webchat. Or that when you’re in your bank’s app, the live chat would be E2EE. But it’s generally not the case. Test it out now - open your banking or healthcare app and ask if the live chat is end-to end encrypted.

Element Call Beta 2: encryption, spatial audio, walkie-talkie mode and more!

Back in March, we announced the first beta release of Element Call, our voice and video conferencing app powered entirely by Matrix. Since then, not only have we been busily using it for all our own internal small-group meetings (it currently only works with up to eight participants - give or take) but we’ve also been working hard on improving and updating it. That makes it really exciting to announce our first major update to Element Call: Beta 2. So, what does this update bring?

Forrester's 2022 Now Tech report on secure communications platforms includes Element

Forrester, the research and advisory firm, recently published its Now Tech: Secure Communications, Q2 2022 report which provides an overview of 25 providers and helps enterprises understand the value of a secure communications platform. And (we’re all flushed in the face), Element is listed as one of the secure communication providers (available to view here).

Looking for a new messenger?

There are many messaging apps out there, but surprisingly little choice. Yet you’ll find most people use messaging apps that only fulfil one (or two if you’re lucky) of those requirements. But why settle for less when you can have it all?! Let’s run through the main problems with most messaging apps, and then take a look at Element.
